Sectors We Support:
Schools and Education
Trauma-informed training that strengthens behaviour, wellbeing and learning
Schools exist to support learning, but learning becomes much harder when pupils don’t feel settled or understood. For some children and young people, they enter school carrying experiences from outside the classroom that shape how they respond once they are there.
Stress, instability or past trauma often show up through behaviour rather than words. This can disrupt learning, strain relationships and leave staff unsure which response will help in the moment.
At heard LEARNING, we support schools to create calmer, more consistent environments where pupils feel safer and staff feel clearer about how to respond. The focus is on steady practice that supports learning over time, rather than quick fixes.
What Schools Are Working With
Schools operate across a wide range of settings, from primary and secondary education to PRUs and alternative provision. Although these environments differ, staff often describe similar experiences.
Behaviour can escalate quickly and interrupt learning. Some pupils struggle with regulation, transitions or trust. Responses can vary between staff, which can leave pupils uncertain about what to expect. Over time, this inconsistency can contribute to repeated incidents and emotional exhaustion.
Staff are also carrying increasing levels of emotional and mental health need in the classroom. Many want to respond in more supportive ways but feel stretched by time, systems and competing demands. In some schools, one member of staff becomes the go–to person for behaviour or trauma–related support, which can create additional pressure.
These challenges affect learning, wellbeing and staff retention. Not because schools are failing, but because pupils’ needs have changed and expectations on schools have grown.
How we support schools and education settings
Our training is designed for real school environments. It works with the rhythm of the school day, the pressures staff face, and the reality of classrooms rather than ideal conditions.
We support educators to understand what sits beneath behaviour and to respond in ways that feel calmer and more predictable for pupils. This includes developing shared approaches across classrooms and roles, which helps pupils feel safer and reduces confusion.
The training also makes space to consider staff experience. Working with heightened needs requires emotional energy, and without support this can lead to fatigue or self-doubt. Sessions are delivered in a way that feels practical and respectful of the roles staff already hold.
Everything we deliver is bespoke, shaped around your school context, your staff and your pupils.
Why schools choose heard LEARNING
Schools work with heard LEARNING because the training reflects everyday school life. It focuses on what staff can do differently in the classroom, rather than adding new language or policy. Teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral teams, SEN staff and leaders are all considered within the same approach.
The emphasis is on building shared understanding and consistency, rather than relying on individual fixes or one-off initiatives. Real examples from education settings are used throughout, helping staff connect learning to their day-to-day experience.
This is training intended to support practice, not sit in a folder.
Training for schools and education settings
All of our training supports areas schools are already working hard on, including behaviour, relationships, personal development and leadership. Learning is delivered in a way that is usable in classrooms and corridors, not just discussed in meetings.
TraumaSmart™
(CPD Accredited)
TraumaSmart supports schools to develop a shared understanding of how trauma and stress affect behaviour and learning. In many settings, pupils experience different responses from different adults, which can increase confusion and challenge.
The training supports staff to respond more consistently across classrooms and roles, reducing reactive responses and preventing escalation where possible. When pupils know what to expect from the adults around them, it becomes easier for them to feel safe enough to learn.
Predictable responses support calmer classrooms and more stable learning conditions.
TraumaSmart+
(Whole Setting Development)
TraumaSmart+ is designed for schools that want support over time rather than a single training day. Alongside the core training, schools receive ongoing input across the year so learning can be revisited and embedded into daily routines.
This supports leadership teams to hold practice with confidence and helps reduce reliance on one behaviour or wellbeing lead. Over time, trauma-informed thinking becomes part of how the school operates rather than something added on.
Whole-school consistency supports behaviour, relationships and staff wellbeing, all of which contribute to a stable learning environment.

This training supports staff to understand how stress can affect attention, behaviour and learning. It helps educators recognise when pupils are dysregulated and to adjust expectations and responses in ways that support regulation.
Understanding how the brain develops allows staff to respond more calmly and effectively, which can improve engagement and reduce repeated disruption.
For some pupils, sensory overload plays a significant role in behaviour and learning. Noise, movement and transitions can feel overwhelming within the school day.
This training supports staff to recognise sensory stress earlier and make adjustments to routines and environments. Responding with greater awareness can reduce distress and support inclusion.
Schools supporting pupils with care experience often see behaviour shaped by loss, uncertainty and disrupted attachment.
This training helps staff understand the emotional impact of care journeys and respond with consistency and understanding. It supports staff to play a clear role within wider care plans while maintaining stability in school.
Informed responses support pupils who are looked after to feel safer and succeed.
Adolescence brings additional complexity, particularly where stress or trauma is present. This training supports staff to understand teenage development and how it influences behaviour under pressure.
It helps reduce power struggles and repeated escalation, supporting calmer responses and improved engagement, particularly within secondary and alternative provision.
Teaching and support roles can be emotionally demanding. Over time, exposure to distress can affect wellbeing.
This training supports staff to recognise signs of emotional exhaustion, understand vicarious trauma, and maintain boundaries. Supporting staff wellbeing helps sustain consistency, stability and retention.
VR training offers staff the opportunity to see school from a pupil’s perspective. This can support reflection and deeper understanding of how interactions feel for children and young people.
When understanding deepens, responses often shift in meaningful ways.
What Schools Can Expect
Our training is intended to support clearer responses, improve confidence and create calmer learning environments over time. The focus is on steady practice that supports both pupils and staff.
